Dr. Robert Berglund 1930-2024
Robert Berglund has a long-established reputation for his achievements as a conductor of
a cappella choral music and choral orchestral works. He is also a composer and arranger of sacred choral music and has authored several publications in the areas of church music
and worship, as well as in aesthetics. His youthful association with conductor Antal Dorati in 1956, marked the beginning of nearly 25 years of preparing choruses for performance with the Minnesota Orchestra. From 1959 to 1995 Dr. Berglund was Professor of Music at Bethel College (currently Bethel University) in St. Paul, MN and Conductor of the critically acclaimed Bethel Choir. In 1972, he founded the Minnesota Chorale and was its Music Director until the Fall of 1976. He served as the Director of Music at Mount Olivet Lutheran
Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the largest Lutheran congregation in the United states, for 26 years. In 1983, he organized the Robert Berglund Chorale and Orchestra for the purpose of performing a wide variety of choral and orchestral works. Robert Berglund attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago where his interest in sacred choral music began. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees from the University of Minnesota, and earned his Doctorate at Northern Colorado University.
